The Contact Lens Service at NEI offers a full range of contact lens options including lenses for cosmetic restoration, visual correction, and therapeutic indications. Virtually any lens that is available worldwide is offered at Northeastern Eye Institute including:
- Soft and Rigid - For nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, distorted cornea, and presbyopia.
- Bifocal - For those who need distance, as well as near correction.
- Disposable - One-day and other short-term disposable lenses.
- Tinted - To change the appearance of eye color.
- Specialty - For trauma, congenital disfigurements, etc.
The Contact Lens Department at NEI has been selected to participate in several FDA studies and manufacturer-sponsored research projects. This is in recognition of the thorough process, safety measures, and methodical approach utilized by NEI towards its care of optical patients and their needs.
The Contact Lens Department is also involved in a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded research project to study the natural history of a corneal disease called keratoconus. This disease generally requires contact lens use. NEI was the only private center to be selected for the study.
